Stillness

Quietud

In stillness, the heart remembers what the mind has forgotten.

Stillness is the place from which true movement begins, where the soul can catch up to the body.

On a windless lake, where only clouds and sky are reflected, a stone is cast. As it breaks the surface, ripples cascade in wake to the edges of the shore.

This card invites you to pause before reacting. Stillness asks nothing of the world except your presence. Let the momentum of the day settle. Give your attention to one quiet thing long enough for the mind to stop chasing everything else. Notice where your thoughts and emotions have spurred action, while none was actually required. Where am I confusing constant motion with meaningful progress? What has been waiting for me to become still enough to hear it?

Clarity reveals itself when we are still enough to receive it.

Reflection Practice

Sit quietly with a candle for five minutes. Let your attention rest on the flame. When your mind wanders, gently return to its light. Before you finish, ask yourself: What has been waiting for me to become still enough to hear it?

Journal Prompt

  • Where am I confusing constant motion with meaningful progress?

Affirmation
