Mourning

Duelo

Honor what love has lost.

Mourning is learning to live in a changed world.

In autumn, marigold petals fall back to the earth. Monarch butterflies leave the mountains. Agave sends up a single flowering stalk before completing its life. Nature does not ask what is meant to pass to remain.

To mourn is not to hold on forever, nor to forget what has been lost. It is to carry love forward after its form has changed. Sometimes that means sitting quietly with a photograph, a familiar object, or a memory, allowing yourself to remember without asking the feeling to be different. How has love remained present, even in absence? Like every season, every farewell asks something of us. Not that we stop loving, but that we learn a new way to love what is gone.

This card arrives when your heart is carrying the weight of an ending. Grief asks for neither speed nor solutions. It asks only to be acknowledged. What has been lost deserves to be remembered, and what has been loved leaves traces that remain long after its absence is felt.

Reflection Practice

Light a candle or sit quietly with a photograph, memory, or meaningful object connected to what you've lost. Let yourself remember without trying to change what you feel. Sit with whatever feeling comes up, even if it is painful. Offer gratitude for what was, as you honor what is no longer here.

Journal Prompt

  • How has love remained present, even in absence?

Affirmation

My grief reflects the depth of my love over my loss.
