Alive
Vivo
Awaken to the life in every moment.
Before noting the cream-colored beauty of a magnolia dealbata in bloom, breathe in its sweet, fruity fragrance. After the rains, jacaranda trees burst into violet bloom. Feel the thrum of cicadas rather than simply listening to their buzz. Notice the warmth of the sun on your skin, the texture of bark beneath your fingers, the taste of something ripe and sweet. Nature speaks in more ways than sight alone, inviting every sense to participate in the experience of being alive.
When this card is drawn, it invites you to awaken your senses. We are more alive when we experience the world through all the faculties of our perception. It is possible to be physically present while our attention, curiosity, and spirit are elsewhere. The more fully you experience the world around you, the more fully you experience your own life.
Slow down.
Pay attention.
Let yourself be reached by what is already here and awaken to the gift of being alive.
Reflection Practice
Choose one ordinary moment today, a meal, a walk, washing your hands, or your morning coffee. Before you begin, notice one thing you can hear, one scent in the air, one texture beneath your hands, one subtle movement around you, and one detail your eyes might otherwise miss. Let each sense welcome you more fully into the moment.
Journal Prompt
- Where in my life have I been present in body, but absent in spirit?
